Market of pigments

Titanium dioxide pigments - commonly named titanium white - are the most important and most widespread inorganic pigments. Titanium dioxide is manufactured with two methods: sulphate and chlorine. Application of titanium dioxide plays an important role in improving of functional value of a pigmented product, at the same time giving it appropriate properties, e.g. non-transparency, colour, gloss. Simultaneously - thanks to high absorption of UV radiation - application of titanium dioxide increases product durability, and thanks to its non-toxicity it makes a product more environmentally friendly.
The most important consumers of TiO2 pigments are the sector of paints and lacquers. Moreover, they are broadly used in the plastics, papermaking, rubber, textile and cosmetics industries. The structure of use of titanium dioxide by particular industry branches in practice is not subject to changes and it is as follows in particular regions of the world (table):

  Paints and lacquers 57 % 50 % 58 %

Analysis of the global market of titanium dioxide over the recent 10 years shows that the average annual rate of growth of demand for this product has been approximately 1.5% - 2% within this period. Due to the fact that titanium dioxide is used in almost all main branches of industry and economy, the use of TiO2 pigments is shaped in relation to the rate of general economic growth in a given time and region. The cyclical nature of general economic growth has translated into cyclical nature of changes in demand for titanium dioxide.
Zakłady Chemiczne "POLICE" SA is the only manufacturer of titanium dioxide in Poland. The product is sold under the "TYTANPOL" mark. Products manufactured by Zakłady Chemiczne "POLICE" SA are sold on the domestic and foreign markets. As far as the domestic sales are concerned, the company supplies titanium dioxide almost solely to the final consumers. However, the foreign sales are realised both through distributors and to the final consumers.

In 1992-2004, the economic growth of Poland greater than in the other part of the region and technological changes in the production of paints and lacquers, plastics and man-made fibres caused increase in consumption of titanium dioxide. Import of titanium dioxide significantly increased over that period, the average annual rate of which was approximately 11%. Import of competitive TiO2 pigments to the domestic markets is at present at the level of approximately 56-60% of the domestic demand.
